Discover more about Marina’s inspiring journey and her pivotal role within our company.
What is your role at KONČAR?
I have been with KONČAR - Motors and Electrical Systems for nine years, specializing in the design and development of electric motors. In addition to my engineering responsibilities, I lead investment projects in the Winding Department. As a technologist, my work involves researching, testing, and approving new materials, programming machinery, streamlining production processes, and driving continuous improvement through the LEAN methodology.
What inspires you in life?
My inspiration comes from a continuous desire for both personal and professional growth. I’m driven by setting new challenges, learning from every experience, and constantly striving to improve. For me, success is a byproduct of fulfilment, lifelong learning, and always aiming for greater heights. Ultimately, my inspiration stems from self-development and making a meaningful contribution to society, while being a role model for my children.
How would you describe the company culture and your accomplishments?
Our company is truly defined by its people. It’s not just a saying having a positive and collaborative work environment is vital for achieving both job satisfaction and professional success. The company’s long-standing stability also provides a sense of financial security, which is especially meaningful for younger employees planning or starting families. I believe that every effort is genuinely valued, individual strengths and preferences are recognized, and there’s a strong commitment to ensuring each employee is placed in a role where they can thrive, contribute effectively, and feel fulfilled.
How do you stay active outside of work?
I love expanding my knowledge beyond the technical realm, particularly in areas like psychology, neuroscience, and marketing. Being a mother has also drawn me to topics around parenting and education. For relaxation, I find peace in cooking and gardening, both of which help me recharge. I’m also committed to continuous learning in areas where I can use my skills to make a positive impact on society and inspire those around me.
Lastly, what’s your takeaway from this competition?
In what is still largely a male-dominated industry, women bring unique strengths-including creativity, enthusiasm, soft skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. It’s essential to foster an interest in STEM fields from an early age, not to meet gender quotas, but to ensure equal opportunities and support for girls who are genuinely passionate about technology.
For too long, outdated beliefs have suggested that math is hard, physics is for boys, and complex calculations are beyond reach. These stereotypes need to be dismantled. We must begin to view engineering and the technical sciences as exciting and rewarding fields for everyone, regardless of gender.
