Second contract signed between KONČAR – Electric Vehicles and Osijek Public Transport company for the delivery of 10 trams
Today, KONČAR – Electric Vehicles Inc. signed a second individual contract with Osijek’s public transport company Gradski prijevoz putnika Ltd. (GPP) under the Framework Agreement for the procurement of new trams aimed at modernising the City of Osijek’s tram fleet.
The contract, valued at EUR 18.5 million, is financed through the public call issued by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure. The delivery of all 10 vehicles is scheduled within 24 months. This agreement builds on the successful cooperation between KONČAR and GPP, which began with the signing of the first individual contract for the procurement of 10 low-floor trams in September 2023.
To date, five low-floor trams have been delivered, with the sixth expected to arrive today. The tram and all its key subsystems are the result of in-house development, with several KONČAR Group companies involved in the manufacturing process. With the new trams for Osijek, KONČAR further strengthens its position as a regional leader in the development of environmentally friendly transport solutions. Through continuous technological advancement, the company remains committed to fostering greener and more accessible mobility in line with European objectives.
“Today, Osijek is positioning itself as a city of the future – a city that honours its heritage while boldly building a modern, technologically advanced and sustainable future. What makes us especially proud is the fact that the people of Osijek have recognised the quality, comfort and safety our trams provide – the greatest validation of this project’s value. That is why this partnership is even more meaningful – together, we are laying the foundations for a stronger, more sustainable and competitive Croatia,” said Gordan Kolak, President of our Management Board.
Osijek Mayor Ivan Radić emphasised that the procurement of an additional 10 trams will bring the city’s fleet to a total of 20 new low-floor trams, fully covering the city’s public transport needs. This means that only modern low-floor trams will operate on Osijek’s streets, with older models being phased out. “The City of Osijek has already signed a contract with KONČAR for the first 10 low-floor trams, and deliveries are proceeding according to plan. Yesterday, the sixth tram arrived, while five are already in operation. Citizens are extremely satisfied with the new vehicles, which are safer, more modern and more comfortable than the previous models,” said Mayor Radić.
“Osijek is currently one of the largest construction sites in Croatia in the field of transport infrastructure. We are witnessing its continuous transformation into a city that systematically builds its future in line with European standards of sustainable mobility and a healthier urban environment. Osijek stands as a positive example thanks to numerous investments across all modes of transport – road, air, river and rail,” said Oleg Butković, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
