At the end of December 2022, a contract was signed to deliver battery trains and energy storage devices. This aligns with the "The application of green technologies in railway passenger transport" initiative under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021–2026. The project encompasses the purchase of a battery electric motor unit (BEMU), a battery electric vehicle (BEV) and six energy storage devices that will be installed along the railway network at train stations in Split, Osijek, Varaždin, Bjelovar, Virovitica and Pula.
