Advanced generator synchronization system delivered and commissioned in Turkey
As part of our long term service agreement for excitation systems, we have successfully delivered and commissioned a state-of-the-art automatic generator synchronization system for the G4 unit, with a capacity of 165 MW, at Soma Thermal Power Plant in Turkey.
Located in the Manisa province—90 km from Manisa and 130 km from Izmir—the plant operates six units with a combined capacity of 990 MW.
The five-year contract provides comprehensive services, including regular preventive inspections, remote access support, training for staff, and priority on-site visits for troubleshooting. After experiencing synchronization issues, the customer turned to us for a reliable, up-to-date solution, which we successfully delivered and commissioned. Synchronizing generators with the grid is a well-known cornerstone of reliable power plant and grid operations. Working within a short timeframe, we delivered, installed, and rigorously tested the new synchronization equipment during the scheduled overhaul, successfully commissioning the system on-site.
Initially commissioned in 1981 with an older synchronization setup, the power plant required a detailed assessment of all existing measurement and control circuits to ensure the safe integration of the upgraded system. This project highlights the ongoing benefits of long-term maintenance contracts, which often lead to expanded projects due to the strong partnership and consistent technical support we provide.
