Construction of three integrated solar power plants on the roofs of KONČAR’s manufacturing facilities
KONČAR contributes to investments in a resilient, green and digital economy and in a sustainable energy transition through a transformation leading to a low-carbon economy
Use of renewable energy sources and investments in energy efficiency are at the heart of the European Green Deal when it comes to achieving climate neutrality targets. In its day-to-day operations KONČAR also contributes to investments in a resilient, green and digital economy and in a sustainable energy transition through a transformation leading to a low-carbon economy.
In this context, the construction works for a solar power plant commenced mid-December 2021 at KONČAR – Distribution and Special Transformers (D&ST). The investment is fully funded from the company equity. The 1.1 MW connection power solar system is expected to be commissioned in Q2 2022, when it will be ready to generate 1,456.16 MWh of electricity a year. By installing the solar power plant, D&ST will have more than 30 percent of its own electricity demand covered, thus making significant financial savings when it comes to overheads. Incidentally, this project has met the criteria of the public call titled “Increasing Energy Efficiency and Use of Renewable Energy Sources in Manufacturing Industries”, but due to insufficient funds available to finance the grants at the moment, D&ST has been put on a waiting list for the time being.
KONČAR – Generators and Motors (GIM) has also begun the project of construction of an integrated solar power plant, for which it received a grant in December 2021 under the public call “Increasing Energy Efficiency and Use of Renewable Energy Sources in Manufacturing Industries”, worth HRK 60 million. The project is financed from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026 and from the Recovery and Resilience Facility. The 450 kW solar power system installed on the roofs of GIM’s production halls is expected to be commissioned by end of 2022. It will be used partly to satisfy GIM’s electricity demands, and any surplus will be delivered to the public power grid.
The registered connection point will also include a 350 kW solar power plant of KONČAR – Motors and Electric Systems (MES). Completion of construction and commissioning is also planned for the end of 2022.
Rational use of power sources, eco-friendly technologies and recyclable materials, the mentioned solar power plants installed on the roof of KONČAR’s manufacturing facilities, and exclusive use of renewable energy — these are just some of the ways that KONČAR contributes to sustainable development.
For export-oriented company, present on global markets, the feasibility of future investment such as these is undeniable.
