Contract completed for the renewal of tram infrastructure in Osijek
Consortium KONČAR Inc. and Colas Rail Hrvatska Ltd. successfully completed the contract with investor GPP Ltd. on November 12, 2025, for electrical installation and civil works related to the modernization and construction of rectifier stations, modernization of the overhead contact line, and construction of an underground cable network in the city of Osijek.

The total value of the works exceeds EUR 10 million.
Within the scope of the contract, a new rectifier station Retfala was built, rectifier stations Gornji grad and Donji grad were modernized, approximately 9 km of underground cable network was installed, and around 11 km of overhead contact line was upgraded. To enable remote monitoring and control of rectifier stations, a Master Station was established at GPP’s headquarters, serving as the Remote Control Center (RCC). The SCADA system at the Master Station provides system visualization and control.

Due to the complexity of the works and limited possibilities for regulating public and road traffic, the contract was executed in three phases. All phases were carried out in parallel with civil works on the track structure, which were subject to a separate contract. The following KONČAR companies participated as equipment suppliers and service providers: Electronics and Informatics, Distribution and Special Transformers, Switchgear, Digital, Electrical Engineering Institute, and Motors and Electrical Systems.

Years of insufficient investment had resulted in outdated tram network infrastructure, worn-out equipment, and rolling stock. With the completion of this project, the city of Osijek now has a tram network aligned with EU standards in terms of safety, reliability, accessibility for persons with disabilities, and a significant reduction in negative CO₂ emissions. The project’s completion was also a prerequisite for the smooth operation of KONČAR’s new modern low-floor tram TMK 2500.
