KONČAR volunteers team up for Earth Day action on Medvednica
Every April 22, Earth Day reminds us of the impact we can make when we come together to protect our planet.
What began in 1970 as a grassroots effort in the U.S. has become a global call to action, one that Croatia has proudly embraced since 1990.
Volunteer activities such as environmental cleanups, educational workshops, and tree planting are at the heart of this movement. These actions not only help preserve our natural surroundings – they also cultivate a sense of community and strengthen awareness of our shared ecological responsibility. By getting involved, each of us has the power to contribute to a more sustainable future.
In anticipation of Earth Day, KONČAR’s Volunteer Club, in partnership with Medvednica Nature Park, organized an environmental cleanup effort rooted in teamwork and care for nature. The initiative reflected KONČAR’s long-standing commitment to sustainable development and its support for community-based environmental action.

Divided into two coordinated teams, KONČAR volunteers set out to clean and preserve Medvednica’s treasured landscapes. From the panoramic viewpoint overlooking Zagreb to Kulmer Meadow, Grafičar Mountain Lodge, and the mining garden near the historic Zrinski mine, they worked diligently to remove litter and debris, leaving a lasting mark of care and collaboration.
Over thirty employees from KONČAR Inc., KONČAR – Digital, KONČAR – Distribution and Special Transformers, and KONČAR – Electrical Engineering Institute took part in the initiative. We were especially pleased to see a number of first-time volunteers join the effort, and we look forward to their continued involvement in future activities. 😊
After a morning of purposeful work under clear spring skies, the group came together to relax with coffee and a hearty, rustic meal on the terrace of the Grafičar mountain lodge. The day concluded with an immersive tour of the Zrinski mine, where participants learned about the region’s mineral heritage and the cultural significance of the site, officially protected since 2006.
We’re deeply grateful to all who took part. Your enthusiasm, collaboration, and care for the environment are truly inspiring. This initiative stands as a powerful reminder that even small acts of stewardship can create meaningful change. Together, we’re building a more sustainable and connected future.
