Croatia gains a new production center for the global energy transformer market
KONČAR – Transformer Tanks officially unveils its new cutting-edge manufacturing facility at a grand opening ceremony in Sesvetski Kraljevec
KONČAR and Siemens Energy today officially opened their newest manufacturing facility in Sesvetski Kraljevec. The modern, fully equipped production plant of KONČAR – Transformer Tanks, a Joint Venture company majority-owned by KONČAR (60%) and Siemens Energy (40%), represents the latest milestone in a partnership between two leading European manufacturers in the power equipment market. This renewed collaboration builds on more than 30 years of successful synergy and marks a significant moment for Croatia’s domestic industry amid an era of rapid energy transition and unprecedented demand for equipment and solutions in the field of power transmission and distribution.
Alongside representatives of KONČAR Group and German partners from Siemens Energy, the inauguration ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Marko Primorac, as well as Minister of Economy, Ante Šušnjar.
KONČAR – Transformer Tanks was established under the Joint Venture Agreement signed by KONČAR and Siemens Energy in July 2024, as a direct response to the growing global demand for transformers, for which transformer tanks are a key component. The partnership enables capacity expansion, knowledge and expertise exchange, risk-sharing, and a more competitive position on the global market. In addition to increasing operational resilience and efficiency, creating new jobs, and opening opportunities for professional development and innovation, the establishment of the new company and factory in Sesvetski Kraljevec represents a significant step forward in reinforcing domestic industry and positioning Croatia on the global energy transition map.
„This collaboration demonstrates KONČAR’s industrial credibility and strength. With its 6,000 employees and presence in 140 markets worldwide, KONČAR truly stands as a flagship of domestic manufacturing, exports, and the development of the Croatian industry. I am pleased to see such a well‑structured manufacturing facility taking shape, one that will create as many as 400 new jobs – a significant contribution to the Croatian economy. Moreover, I hope that the successful realization of this factory will encourage further investments and inspire others to focus on manufacturing, which remains the foundation of progress and positions us as an indispensable player in the European and global energy and electrical engineering sectors”, said Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia.

“The opening of KONČAR – Transformer Tanks factory marks one of the most important milestones in KONČAR Group’s recent history, reaffirming our commitment to innovation and development, as well as to creating local value with global reach. We are proud that this strategic step forward also represents a new chapter in our long and successful partnership with Siemens Energy – a partnership built on clear goals, expertise, and mutual trust. Furthermore, it is particularly meaningful that this milestone coincides with our 105th anniversary, providing an opportunity to honour generations of experts whose vision and achievements laid the foundations for a stronger, more resilient, and internationally recognised future of the energy sector,” said Gordan Kolak, President of the Management Board of KONČAR.
As part of the ceremony, a special live stream was held from KONČAR – Power Transformers (KPT), the first Joint Venture between KONČAR and Siemens Energy, established in 1995 and today recognised as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of large power transformers. This company, located in Jankomir and majority-owned by Siemens Energy (51%) with KONČAR holding the remaining 49%, is also undergoing substantial strategic investments showcased through live drone footage from the site. With the projects KPT1 and KPT2, the partners aim to double the company’s capacity by 2031. In addition to strengthening operational capabilities, both strategic partnerships focus on ensuring safer and higher-quality working conditions, continuous professional development, and jointly overcoming technological and market challenges. These efforts actively support economic growth and contribute to building a more energy-independent and sustainable future.

“Market demand for transformers has increased dramatically in recent years. With the opening of the new transformer tank factory, KONČAR and Siemens Energy are combining decades of expertise, strategically expanding production capacities, and reinforcing the resilience of global supply chains. The inauguration represents an important step in addressing the global shortage of transformers, while also showcasing how international partnerships can significantly accelerate the energy transition,” said Tim Holt, Member of the Executive Board of Siemens Energy.
