Successful rollout of 21 new trains marks completion of EU-funded acquisition project
In April 2024, the commissioning of the 21st electric multiple unit signalled the completion of the “HŽ Passenger Transport’s rolling stock renewal by new electric multiple-units” project.
Each unit is a four-car low-floor composition designed with accessibility in mind, featuring wheelchair ramps and bicycle spaces, and ensuring passenger security with comprehensive video surveillance. Regional trains have four doors on each side, primarily featuring double seats, with a capacity of 209 seated and 222 standing passengers. The commuter models have eight doors on each side, mainly with single seats, accommodating 130 seated and 385 standing passengers. Passenger comfort and connectivity are enhanced by visual and audio station announcements, along with free WiFi access throughout the train. Measuring 75 meters in length, these trains can be coupled to form larger units, thus increasing their capacity to meet higher passenger demand. With the regenerative braking system, electricity is generated to power the train, with surplus energy returned to the overhead line. This system recovers approximately 26% of total energy consumed, significantly boosting efficiency. These trains are capable of reaching speeds of 160 km/h.
