They are designed for operation on long-distance routes that include both electrified and non-electrified sections, enabling uninterrupted passenger transport. These trains are another example of KONČAR Group’s in-house development capabilities, combining modern technologies with decades of experience in rail vehicle manufacturing.

With a traction power of 1,200 kW, EDMUs deliver consistently high performance across the entire rail network, including demanding routes such as mountainous sections typical of Croatia. The use of two independent energy sources ensures optimal energy efficiency and maximum fleet availability across different types of railway infrastructure. They are manufactured for a standard gauge of 1,435 mm and a 25 kV, 50 Hz AC power supply system, reaching speeds of up to 160 km/h in both operating modes. Up to three coupled units can be controlled from a single driving cab, allowing transport capacity to be adjusted to operational requirements.

The trains feature a low-floor design with a floor height of 600 mm and four entrance doors on each side, ensuring easy access and faster passenger flow. They provide seating for 150 passengers, including 18 seats in first class and 132 seats in second class. Passenger amenities include a catering area with self-service food and beverage machines, free Wi-Fi, power outlets for electronic devices, and modern passenger information and video surveillance systems. The interior also includes designated spaces for bicycles and passengers with reduced mobility, including wheelchair areas equipped with a boarding lift and an accessible toilet.

Electro-Diesel Multiple Units represent a modern solution for sustainable and competitive regional and long-distance rail transport, as well as a significant technological step forward in the modernisation of railway transport through increased efficiency, operational flexibility and service quality.
