Three new generators for Ering-Frauenstein HPP
In 2020, we contracted three new 35 MVA, 10,5 kV, 68,2 rpm, 50 Hz replacement generators for Ering-Fraunstein HPP, located on the border of Austria and Germany, on the River Inn. By 2024, the commissioning of all three generators was successfully completed The specific feature of this project is that rotor star welding, chain assembly and pole assembly took place at the power plant, while the size necessitated the stator core packaging and stator winding insertion to be performed outside the power plant in a specially designed tent.
In early 2020, the Austrian power company Verbund awarded KONČAR with an agreement for the design, manufacture, and delivery of the first of three new 33.5 MVA, 10.5 kV, 68.2 rpm, 50 Hz replacement generators and associated equipment for the needs of Ering-Frauenstein HPP.
In May 2022, we successfully commissioned G3 for trial operation, followed by the commissioning of G2 a year later. In the meantime, the customer placed an order for the third G1 generator, and the works were finalized in spring 2024.
The scope of work included the delivery of a new stator, rotor and other auxiliary generator systems, as well as disassembly, assembly and commissioning.
The special feature of the project is that the assembly and installation are preformed on-site, because of the size and technical requirements of the stator and rotor. Rotor star welding, chain assembly and pole assembly took place at the power plant, while the size necessitated the stator core packaging and stator winding insertion to be performed outside the power plant in a specially designed tent.
Ering-Frauenstein HPP is located on the border of Austria and Germany, near the town of Simbach on the River Inn. Although the customer is an Austrian power company, the project at this border power plant is officially recorded in Germany, under the competence of Verbund’s subsidiary Grenzkraftwerke GmbH.
