Successful commissioning of G6 generator at Burfell HPP in Iceland
In April 2023, G6 generator at the Burfell HPP was successfully installed, commissioned, and put into trial operation for Landsvirkjun, Iceland’s leading utility company. This milestone is significant as it marks our first direct involvement in the Icelandic energy market and also our first project with the national utility, setting the stage for future collaboration.
Located 130 km east of Reykjavik on the Thjorsa River, the Burfell HPP houses six vertical units, each rated at 50.6 MVA, which have been in operation since the early 1970s.
This project encompassed the delivery of a new stator with an increased capacity of 53 MVA, in addition to spare parts, specialized tools, and auxiliary equipment. The customer’s personnel handled the generator's disassembly and reassembly, with our experts providing supervision and overseeing the commissioning.
Just two days ahead of the planned installation of G4 generator, a severe stator failure occurred in G6 generator. In response, and in collaboration with the customer, we made swift adjustments to install the newly manufactured stator—initially intended for G4—into G6. With G4 still functioning, this rapid intervention restored G6 to operation.
It is anticipated that the contractual option for an additional stator will soon be activated, enabling the planned replacement of the stator on G4 generator.
Our successful completion of this project, coupled with a timely response to the customer’s added requirements due to the G6 failure, has further enhanced our reputation as a key partner in the Nordic market.
