Sydkraft Hydropower − Bålforsen HPP
In June, we completed negotiations with Sydkraft Hydropower and secured a new project for the third unit (G3) at the Bålforsen HPP in Sweden.
Having successfully executed numerous projects for this customer in Sweden, we are currently working on contracts for Bålforsen G2, Gulsele G2, and Hjälta G3. Additionally, we have an active bid for the Turinge G2 project, with negotiations scheduled for the fall.
Currently operating with two units, the Bålforsen HPP is undergoing expansion following a multi-year feasibility and profitability study, in which we provided input through our proposals. Last year, Sydkraft Hydropower issued a tender for a third unit, with the installation site already prepared.
Located on the Ume River, 10 km northwest of Lycksele, the new unit will be powered by a Kaplan turbine, just like the two existing units.
Along with producing and supplying the new generator, which is rated at 46 MVA, 9.2 kV, and 115.4 rpm, we will also oversee its installation, testing, and commissioning at the plant.
Construction work is already underway, with the first phase expected to be completed by the end of the year. After this, any necessary schedule adjustments will be made in consultation with the customer. The project is scheduled for full completion by mid-2027, with the warranty period set to begin immediately thereafter.
Fortum − Hummelforsen HPP
Building on the two major contracts signed with Fortum in April 2024 for the Svarthålsforsen HPP in Sweden and the Nuojua HPP in Finland, we secured another project in Sweden at the end of June, focusing on the revitalization of the Hummelforsen HPP.
Hummelforsen HPP, situated on the Västerdalälven River, 15 km from Vansbro (about 300 km northwest of Stockholm), has been in service since 1955. The 15 MVA ASEA generator, featuring a Kaplan turbine, has reached the end of its operational life, according to the customer. The project entails delivering a new stator with a new cooling system, pole re-insulation, and refurbishing other components, alongside all required on-site work. Completion of the project is targeted for November 2026.
We have a strong track record of successfully completing several contracts for Fortum in the Swedish and Finnish markets, including projects at the Eldforsen, Grada, Svarthålsforsen G1 and G2, Untra, Letten, Imatra G3, G4, and G7, and Pyhäkoski G1 and G2 hydropower plants. At the moment, we are executing a contract to revitalize two generators at the Hermansboda HPP in Sweden, with ongoing negotiations for several more projects.
