First generator contract secured for Azerbaijan
As part of our collaboration with an Austrian turbine supplier, we will design, manufacture, and test two synchronous generators for the Tekeqaya small hydropower plant in Azerbaijan.
Each generator will have a 2024 kVA power rating, 4.600 rpm rotational speed, and 1000 V voltage. The generators, powered by horizontal Pelton turbines, are set to be delivered in the second quarter of 2025, with full commissioning planned by year-end.
We are particularly excited about this project, as it marks our first contract to supply generators and associated equipment for hydropower plants in Azerbaijan. The country is rich in untapped hydropower resources, making it an ideal market for small hydropower development. At present, 35 hydropower plants are in operation with a total installed capacity of 1,302 MW, of which 24 are small hydropower plants. The Ministry of Energy estimates that 520 MW of hydropower potential remains undeveloped. The surge in small hydropower investments is largely driven by government-backed initiatives and the introduction of a legislative framework aimed at fostering renewable energy investments.
Previously in this market, we partnered with a local shipyard to produce and deliver an asynchronous wound-rotor motor rated at 330 kW, with a speed of 1,470 rpm and a voltage of 380 V. This motor, designed for a ship crane, was delivered in 2020 and successfully commissioned in 2021.
While our past efforts have largely centered on producing and supplying equipment for ship installations, typically through European partners, this contract creates a foundation for future projects and unlocks new opportunities for larger-scale contracts in this market.
