Transforming waste into art: the first artistic sculpture from our transformer parts
With great enthusiasm, albeit a bit delayed, we present the first artistic sculpture by Montenegrin artist Danilo Baletić, created using waste parts from our transformers.
The idea, conceived in 2019, came to fruition in 2022 despite the delays caused by well-known global circumstances. The artistic project envisioned Baletić crafting an ecologically aware transformer using waste parts from our transformers. This coincided with the implementation of the EU Commission Regulation (No. 548/2014 Tier 2) on July 1, 2021, which mandates the delivery of transformers with lower losses, thus being more environmentally friendly.
Inspired by climate change and the first heavy snowfall in his hometown, Baletić created a gigantic 6-meter-high snow dinosaur, marking the beginning of his journey into art. In 2012, he crafted his first metal waste sculpture, the transformer "Ramtron," focused on environmental protection, which was exhibited at the ecological festival in Durmitor National Park, Montenegro. Waste became his creative medium, and his inspiration stems from humanity's relationship with comfort, consumer mentality, and social values. Over the years, he has created dozens of transformer sculptures from scrap metal, ranging from 2 to 15 meters in height, displayed in cities such as Podgorica, Belgrade, Osijek, Zadar, Zagreb, Milan, and Graz.
“For me, all waste has exploitation value,” points out Baletić.
This successful artistic collaboration between Baletić and our team has resulted in the first artistic creation by this renowned artist at our site. As Baletić notes, his recycled transformers send a powerful message about the environmental threats facing our planet and the necessity of preservation. These sculptures serve as environmental guardians in their display locations. Our sculpture, named RoboTier-2, was created from 1,500 kg of waste parts sent to Montenegro. It stands 4.3 meters tall, weighs 800 kg, and is a testament to innovative recycling.
The idea originated in the Distribution Transformer Profit Centre, which is dedicated to finding and developing environmentally improved technical solutions, considering the proximity of transformer installations in urban areas and their various applications in renewable energy production. We believe this is just the beginning of many such projects.
We look forward to future collaborations with both Croatian and international artists, with the potential of creating an art park at our location, enriching our site, supporting artists, and sending a powerful message about environmental sustainability.
