“KONČAR” annual award for the Doctoral thesis awarded to Mario Jurković, PhD
We are excited to celebrate another notable achievement, marking the success of our colleague while also contributing significantly to the broader transformer community and industry.
We are thrilled to congratulate our colleague Mario Jurković, now a Doctor of Science, on receiving the KONČAR Annual Award for his doctoral thesis defended during the 2020/2021 academic year. This prestigious award honours outstanding scientific achievements in technical sciences with practical applications in industry. Sponsored by KONČAR Inc., our colleague Jurković received the award during the Faculty Day of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb.
His thesis, titled "Calculation of Transformer Short-Circuit Voltage Using Conformal Mappings", was supervised by Prof. Damir Žarko, who recently co-authored the first book on transformers in Croatia since 1961, alongside Dr. Branimir Ćućić.
Throughout his extensive career as a designer of special transformers, our colleague Jurković recognized that standard software and programs are effective for common geometries. However, for more complex geometries, hands-on experience and comparisons with measurements of similar transformers are often required. While finite element method (FEM) programs could offer solutions, his primary goal was to develop a method that is straightforward to use and easily integrated into existing systems.
Consequently, the method presented in his doctoral thesis serves as an excellent alternative to the finite element method.
This achievement is a testament to Dr. Jurković's significant personal dedication and investment. Moreover, it exemplifies how the collaboration between the scientific community and practical industry experience can produce successful, practical, and innovative industrial solutions.
