Successful stator refurbishment in Indonesia
Working alongside our partner, PT GMF Aero Asia, we have completed the replacement of the stator winding and cooling system on Generator Unit 3 at the Cirata HPP.
In operation since 1988, the Cirata HPP is situated on the island of Java, Indonesia, and is the largest hydropower plant in Southeast Asia. It features eight generators, each with a capacity of 126 MVA and 16.5 kV, producing an average of 1,428 GWh of electricity annually.
The contract involved replacing the stator winding, modifying the base to make the stator compatible and interchangeable across all eight generators, and reconstructing the cooling system to address deformations in the stator core caused by overheating.
We successfully tackled two critical challenges during the project: developing a new winding that perfectly matched the existing stator core and redesigning the cooling system’s piping to maintain uniform flow through the coolers. This project was executed in partnership with GMF Aero Asia. Given their limited experience with hydro generators, our representatives not only supervised and commissioned the work but also provided training to their team.
PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB), the end customer, expressed their satisfaction with the work and hinted at plans to continue these activities across other generator units.
