First unit at Losenstein HPP now fully operational

Building on the success of the Pantaleon Hydropower Plant (HPP) project, we secured a direct contract with the Austrian power company Ennskraftwerke in October 2022 for the Losenstein HPP project.

Ennskraftwerke operates a total of 14 hydropower plants on the Enns and Steyr rivers. With an annual generation of around 1.8 million kwh, supplied to Verbund and Energie AG Oberösterreich as well as to the Austrian Federal Railways, this customer is one of the largest Austrian producers of electricity from renewable sources.

The Losenstein HPP is situated on the Enns River, 25 km from the city of Steyr. The plant houses two units consisting of vertical Kaplan turbines directly connected to three-phase synchronous generators.

The scope of work encompasses the design, manufacturing, and delivery of two new stators, rotor poles, excitation systems, spare parts, special tools, and devices, along with the disassembly, assembly, and commissioning of the units. Additionally, the contract stipulates an increase in generator capacity from the current 20 MVA to 22 MVA.

We commenced work on the plant in October 2023, completing the assembly of the first generator, G1 (22 MVA, 6.3 kV, 125 rpm, 50 Hz), by March of this year. Following a successful 28-day trial run, the unit was transitioned to permanent operation.

The second generator, G2, is currently under production, and it is expected to be completed by the end of October. On-site work will begin shortly after, with assembly and commissioning scheduled for March and April 2025, respectively.
