Brežice HPP in Slovenia
For the new power plant, we delivered three generators with a maximum continuous output of 21.5 MVA, equipped with excitation systems and unit monitoring systems. We delivered umbrella-type generators which do not require top bearings. Instead, a rotor with a 6.5 meter diameter, weighing almost 100 tons and with a 10 mm air gap rotates on a 5 meter-long turbine shaft.
In 2013, we entered into an agreement with the owner of the power plants on the lower course of the Sava River, Hidroelektrarne na spodnji Savi (HESS), for the manufacturing, delivery, assembly, and commissioning of generation units with auxiliary equipment for the needs of the new Brežice HPP. We delivered three generators with a maximum continuous output of 21.5 MVA, equipped with excitation and monitoring systems.
Commissioned in 2017, Brežice HPP is located on the River Sava, sprawling from Zidani Most to the Croatia border. It is the fourth facility in a chain of power plants, with a total rated power of 45 MW and a flow rate of 500 m3/s. This run-of-the-river type HPP is powered by three Kaplan vertical turbines, with 161 GWh planned annual generation.
Apart from generating electricity, this complex multi-purpose project aims to improve infrastructure and pursue flood protection, watercourse regulation, groundwater conservation, rise of groundwater table and the resulting protection of drinking water reserves.
