Laboratory for Power Systems and Drives commissioned

The new Laboratory for Power Systems and Drives incorporates advanced technical features and state-of-the-art testing and measurement equipment. It is one of a handful laboratories worldwide offering High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) testing of direct energy transmission cables.

The construction and commissioning of the Laboratory for Power Systems and Drives (LAVESP) significantly upgrades our testing capabilities, particularly in the field of HV testing, ensures continuity of our laboratory services and reinforces our market position. The construction works on this unique laboratory were launched in July 2021 and the €7 million investment was fully financed from KONČAR’s own funds.

Laboratory for Power Systems and Drives

The new Laboratory incorporates advanced technical features and state-of-the-art testing and measurement equipment. It is one of a handful laboratories worldwide offering High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) testing of direct energy transmission cables. It consists of two test halls sprawling over 1,500 m2 and performs type, special and development tests of power and instrument transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors and earthing switches, GIS HV plants, conductor and support insulators, overhead line and suspension equipment, HV cables and HVDC cables.

LAVESP is exceptionally important for the continuity and development of testing of HV equipment, and in terms of technical characteristics it matches world-renowned laboratories. Besides meeting the needs of the domestic power engineering sector and strengthening cooperation with the scientific community, KONČAR’s new laboratory will drive the expansion of existing international collaborations and strategic partnerships, and additionally build up our global recognition.

LAVESP operates within our Laboratory Centre consisting of eight laboratories internationally accredited for a wide range of 750 testing and calibration methods in the fields of power engineering, industry, rails vehicles and infrastructure.

It operates as a one - stop testing centre, providing premium and rapid services to customers worldwide. The key customers and users of the Laboratory Centre include leading global power engineering equipment manufacturers from Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands, England, Germany, Austria and beyond.
